Recycling can be amazing

I'm not an activist but these last years I became more and more concerned about our planet. As a regular citizen, I often feel powerless : I sort my waste when possible, I try to reduce my waste... But it doesn't feel enough. I'm just a drop in the ocean. Do I really make a difference ?

Fortunately, some people are wonderful and have great ideas to remind me there's still some hope for humanity.

So many things can be recycled or upcycled, things I would have never imagined.

There are so many amazing initiatives, I think they deserve to be supported.

DIY : Recycle your own plastic

I don't remember how I heard about this community : Precious Plastic

There's a huge problem with plastic recycling, to know more you can see the last episode of the Broken Documentary on Netflix. Also, a report from French Senate just came up last month.

We consume a lot more plastic than we can really recycle.

Precious Plastic wants to create local recycling communities, where anyone could bring their plastic bottles, recycle them and build anything with it.

I find this idea so amazing ! If I had space like a garage and time, I'd love learning how to recycle.

France is not very active yet on the map, I'd love to visit some workshops near Paris.

Give your hair, save the ocean

Did you know that your hair can help to absorb oil spills in the ocean ? Yes, it does, you can see how it works in this video.

Capillum is a French company which helps recycle hairs in partnership with hairdressers and barbers. You can find on the website the list of hair salons involved in the process. Your hair can help against marine pollution and also in biomedical domain.

So, are you ready to begin ?

Free eggs against food wastes (sorry vegans)

I found this today. I already don't remember how, I click on a tweet, I click on a website, etc., etc.

We probably could think that our food wastes are biodegradable and not an environmental big deal. But not exactly, food wastes produce methane, one responsible for global warming.

Cocottarium wants to use food wastes from cities or companies to feed the laying hens in exchange for eggs.
You could tell me, "why don't you use a composter ?". Yes, I already thought about it, but I live in an apartment near Paris, I don't have plants and I really don't have the green thumb. So, create compost to do nothing with it (not really exciting).
But, if I could go for a walk in my city, feed the hen and obtain a box of eggs, why not ?

Seashell can be more than a necklace

I didn't realize the waste represented by seafood, I had never thought about that. What happens to the seashell after we ate the meat inside ? In coast cities we eat a lot of seafood at the local restaurant, we also eat a lot of oysters during Christmas or new year’s events. I would have believed that the seashell will be biodegradable but in reality they are burnt.

This is why Malakio decided to recycle them instead of burning them. I found this surprising and original. Another alternative for interior design.

Sneakers on the vine

For one year I've started to visit crowd funding websites (especially Ulule) because people are very innovative regarding environment and health. Sometimes I support some projects to test and try new things or just because I really liked the project.

Unfortunately, I missed this one, or fortunately because I love sneakers, I buy too many shoes and my boyfriend becomes mad.

Zeta project proposes to recycle the grapes waste left by farmers when they produce juice or wine, to create sneakers ! Again it makes me realize that we can do so many things with all kinds of waste !

In the same spirit, you also have SuperGreenShoes who creates shoes and sneakers but with corn.

Clean the ocean by wearing it

To conclude with this post, the last idea, the most popular I think. More and more fashion brands (Bionic Yarn, Ecoalf, Ankore) have started to create clothes with plastic collected in the ocean.

That's a really great initiative.

My only "regret" with the "eco-fashion" is the price. The products are often expensive (and I can totally understand why) but when you need to change mentality and customs, ideas have to be accessible to the greatest number. Ecology/Environment can't stay in a niche market.
